The seventh edition of the World Para Swimming Series has officially kicked off in Lignano Sabbiadoro, delivering excitement right from the first day of competition. With 35 nations from America, Asia, and Europe taking part, the event has once again proven to be an unmissable occasion for athletes, enthusiasts, and professionals in the field.
From the very first races, the level of competition has been incredibly high, with outstanding performances. One of the standout athletes of the day was Kazakhstan’s Andrey Afanasyev, who set a new Asian continental record, highlighting the continued growth of the Paralympic swimming movement on an international scale.
Beyond the sporting achievements, the event has been flawlessly organized, thanks to the invaluable contribution of 60 volunteers who, with dedication and passion, have ensured the smooth running of the competition. Their support has been crucial in creating an atmosphere of hospitality and inclusion, fundamental values of Paralympic sport.
Italy got off to a fantastic start, immediately securing the top spot in the medal table with 3 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Ukraine follows with 1 gold and 1 silver, while Austria and Uzbekistan share third place with 1 gold medal each.
The World Para Swimming Series is not just a competition—it is a moment of unity and emotion, where flags and nationalities blend together in the common spirit of sport. It is an event eagerly awaited by both athletes and spectators, celebrating the strength, determination, and talent of those who never give up.
Highlighting the significance of this event, Federica Fornasiero shared her thoughts:
“The idea behind this event is simple yet powerful. Initially, only the World Series were held, but later, the Italian Championships were introduced within the same event. This has created a bridge between elite athletes, such as the medalists from the Paris Paralympics, and newcomers making their debut in high-level competition. Here, young swimmers thrive, find new energy, and often achieve their personal best times. Seeing champions up close inspires them, pushing them to give their all and dream big.”
